──[ MegaMUD Character Manager · CHANGELOG ]──

← back to the File Library

Built on the fly — this one is vibe-coded: written as I go and shipped as it comes together, with the kinks still being worked out. I think it's genuinely useful already, and I appreciate everyone who has found it so. Feedback and bug reports to the SYSOP — all of it welcome.
v1.6.12026-09-02Much lighter, much quicker
MegaMUD 2.1 plug-in support — live character data, bridged statistics and history, and a command bar in every session. This release is a performance pass on top: far lighter on your processor, and everything reacts quicker.
Changed
  • The manager sits light on your processor now, however many sessions are open.
  • It stays responsive while every session is in combat.
  • Dragging MegaMUD’s own windows is smooth again.
  • Tabs no longer flicker.
  • Switching tabs and opening windows is immediate.
Fixed
  • Taskbar and Alt-Tab previews show the docked session, and keep up with it.
  • A plugin that fails to install says so, and offers to retry with the permission it needs.
v1.6.02026-08-24Plug-in support is here
The MegaMUD 2.1 plug-in bridge is live — richer character data, bridged statistics and history, and a command bar in every bridged session. A running session needs a MegaMUD restart to pick up the plug-in.
Added
  • The MegaMUD 2.1 plug-in bridge — live character sheet, vitals, room, party and round timer from each session.
  • A session already running needs a MegaMUD restart to pick up the plug-in.
  • The plug-in only observes and answers; keystrokes stay inside MegaMUD, and off means off.
  • Dock and Undock from a Manager menu inside the session itself.
  • A command bar under bridged sessions — type there instead of into the game; the scroll never pauses. Ctrl+B toggles it.
  • Session figures come from the bridge when it is there, falling back the moment it is not.
  • History keeps a bridged session’s full count — kills and deaths per session, with a Died column.
  • A MUDQOL menu and dashboard for sessions running the in-game MUDQOL mod.
Changed
  • Docked sessions keep MegaMUD’s dark menu bar, with a slim title bar inside the tab naming the character.
  • Dark mode reaches every title bar, window border and menu bar — no more light seams around dark windows.
  • The gap around a docked session is gone — the terminal stretches to the tab’s edges.
v1.5.42026-08-24Window cleanup
  • Additional window cleanup to be cohesive with MegaMUD and to gear up for plug-in support.
v1.5.32026-08-23Rebuilt around MegaMUD 2.1’s plugin — and a good deal of polish
Enhanced features and efficiency throughout, and the groundwork for MegaMUD 2.1 plug-in support.
Added
  • MegaMUD 2.1 plug-in support — richer character data coming soon.
  • Open Character is a free-standing window beside the manager — leave it open and keep typing into the game. Ctrl+T brings it forward.
  • Quit All Sessions quits every docked session, saving each; Previous Sessions brings the whole set back — so updating MegaMUD is quit, update, restore.
  • Previous Sessions also restores just one, and keeps a Recently closed list, so a session shut by mistake is one click back.
  • Release All to Desktop hands every docked session back to the desktop at once, closing nothing.
  • Automatic updates — checks GitHub on launch, and installs only if you say yes.
  • A Light theme, and a Theme menu to switch. Dark stays the default. Thanks Durin and Wictincei.
  • Ctrl+1–8 switch tabs, Ctrl+9 goes to the last, Ctrl+Tab steps through them — all while you are playing. Thanks Durin.
  • MegaMUD’s "Help File Blocked" startup dialog no longer appears.
Changed
  • A tab’s X releases the session to the desktop; Quit Session (Ctrl+W) quits MegaMUD. Exit is separate from both.
  • The status dot reads three states: bright green plugin-fed, dark green on the BBS, red off.
  • The Monitor no longer reads the same thing twice a refresh — far fewer calls with a dozen sessions open.
  • Dragging a tab shows a bold marker where it will land, instead of shuffling every tab it passes.
  • Closing the manager releases every session at once, waiting only on the slowest.
  • Docking and releasing no longer scan the character folders — most of the wait on a slow drive.
  • Restoring a full set docks quietly and settles once, instead of a round of shuffling per session.
  • Updating waits for the manager to close before installing, so Setup no longer trips over it still running.
  • Light theme: the amber warnings and the offline red read more clearly on the light ground.
Removed
  • The telnet proxy and screen-capture figure sources — the 2.1 plugin replaces them.
Fixed
  • Your MegaMUD windows are yours — the manager no longer opens or re-opens any of them, through docking, undocking and restarts alike.
  • A reopened session returns to its own tab instead of leaving a ghost empty one behind.
  • A restored session no longer comes up black after a many-session restore.
  • Hovering a tab no longer stops you typing into the game. Thanks Wictincei.
  • Releasing a single session no longer freezes the manager while it waits on that MegaMUD.
  • Releasing the selected tab no longer hides the freed session’s Conversations and Party windows.
v1.4.52026-08-11Reading sessions through MegaMUD’s own capture, not the proxy
Experimental and off by default — turn it on per session from the Monitor right-click. Plus Ctrl 1–9 tab hotkeys.
  • Session figures can come from MegaMUD’s own capture instead of the proxy. Off at launch; turn it on per session.
  • Capture start reworked for current Windows — the old build reported "started" while capturing nothing.
  • The proxy steps back: off the menus, and no twenty-second freeze when starting it on a running session.
  • Ctrl 1–9 switch tabs, even while you are playing in a docked session.
  • Monitor rows read green online, red offline, violet relayed. A busy session reads as online again.
  • The tab hover tip shows even while you are playing in the session.
  • Clear-tracking no longer counts reconnects, loop restarts or new health lows as a Clear.
  • The disconnect taskbar flash stops once every dropped session is back.
v1.4.42026-08-06MegaMUD’s View menu works again
  • If you are on 1.4.3, update — it left MegaMUD’s View menu unusable.
  • Statistics, Session and Time Analysis windows are opened once and left alone. Close one and it stays closed.
  • Any window 1.4.3 left hidden is put back on screen at startup.
  • Closing one of those windows stops its figures being recorded; reopening it resumes.
v1.4.32026-08-05More Session History work, and faster window docking
  • A session no longer needs MegaMUD’s statistics window switched on.
  • History is kept per session rather than per character name.
  • New Config column, naming which character file a session used.
  • Picking up running sessions at startup is near-instant.
  • The Killed column counts the session, not MegaMUD’s total since it started.
  • Clearing a session removes its events too, and names what it will delete.
  • Session History no longer jumps to the front whenever the manager is clicked.
  • Session History and the Monitor open beside the manager, and reopen where you left them.
v1.4.22026-08-04Escapes are recorded accurately
  • Escapes come from MegaMUD’s own log instead of being guessed from health — 48 real, against 417 logged.
  • Characters that keep no log still fall back to watching health.
  • The Session History window no longer sits half behind a docked session.
v1.4.12026-08-04Session History updates while you play
  • The session you are playing sits at the top and updates every five seconds.
  • Records the loop, level, experience, lives and character points from the character file.
  • Summary line: sessions, time played, experience earned, best and typical hourly rate.
  • Sortable columns, and copy to clipboard for a spreadsheet.
  • Monitor right-click: Session History, and MegaMUD’s View-menu windows.
  • Monitor columns drag into any order, and the order is remembered.
  • Near misses are recorded once per episode instead of once per poll.
  • Fixed: clicking a tab or monitor row types into that session; the dark theme reaches column headings.
v1.4.02026-08-01Session History, and more in the Session Monitor
Session History
  • Kept for every session — docked or not, relayed or not, however it ends.
  • MegaMUD’s own numbers are kept exactly as reported, including the 44 from its statistics window.
  • Anything unmeasured is blank rather than 0. A zero under Killed claims nothing died.
  • A relayed session also records damage, healing, which monsters died, and the traffic around a death.
New captures
  • Deaths, and the far more common escapes — logging off at low health. Cutoff is MegaMUD’s own HpLogoff%.
  • Clearing the statistics window, with the figures as they stood the moment before.
  • An ordinary logoff in good health is not an event.
Session Monitor
  • Right-click → Session History, for any session listed.
  • Right-click → MegaMUD windows: every item from its View menu, toggled one or all at once.
  • Columns drag into any order, and the order is remembered.
Fixed
  • Clicking a tab puts the caret in that session, which it never did before.
  • The dark theme reaches the column headings.
  • The Session History window is themed.
Removed
  • Party Totals and Show Stats — what the relay counts still feeds Session History.
  • “Session windows” on the right-click, replaced by MegaMUD windows.
  • --status, the command-line mode that read every session’s status bar at once.
v1.3.12026-07-31Conversations window comes back at a usable size
  • A restored Conversations window is no longer 42×39 pixels in the corner of the screen.
  • A window that was never placed goes where MegaMUD’s character file says it belongs.
  • A window you positioned yourself is left exactly where you put it.
v1.3.02026-07-28Health in the monitor, and a stats window about monsters
  • The session monitor shows health for every session, relayed or not.
  • Health is read from MegaMUD’s own party window, so it can’t hang or disturb a session.
  • A session whose health can’t be read is blank, never zero.
  • The statistics window leads with the per-monster table — the breakdown MegaMUD doesn’t have.
  • Damage columns say which direction: "Damage to you" and "Dealt to others".
  • Your own spells and item procs count as yours, not as everyone else’s.
  • MegaMUD’s game data is read all four levels deep, including the per-BBS level.
v1.2.12026-07-28Monster naming fixes
  • A monster is named the same way wherever it’s counted, so one creature is one row.
  • Baby, young and adolescent name different creatures — no longer merged onto one “dragon” row.
  • Only seven words are treated as decoration: angry, big, fat, large, nasty, small, thin.
v1.2.02026-07-27Session, settings and stats fixes
A large stability pass — the manager can no longer take your sessions down with it.
  • The manager can no longer crash a busy session it’s watching.
  • An error inside the manager no longer scatters your docked sessions.
  • Opening the manager twice no longer steals the first copy’s sessions.
  • A released session can no longer be destroyed when the manager closes.
  • Settings, profiles, layout and the docked record are written safely.
  • Kills are counted at last — and for the right character in a group.
  • Damage is credited to whoever actually dealt it; one monster is one row.
  • New: kills, damage and experience kept after a session ends.
  • New: window layout presets — tile, cascade, save and restore.
  • New: keyboard shortcuts for switching, moving, docking and closing.
  • The close button asks first, and says which thing it will do.
v1.1.52026-07-26Clearer session-monitor info
Session-monitor details (character, class, BBS…) resolve more reliably. Still finicky on older MegaMUD builds.
v1.1.42026-07-26Stats fixes + a smoother monitor
Live-stats fixes, plus a cleaner, steadier session monitor.
  • Live stats now count your damage taken and healing correctly.
  • Everyone else’s damage is tracked separately, so a group fight is finally legible.
  • The session monitor no longer flickers.
  • Sessions that aren’t connected are dimmed across the whole row.
  • Hover a session for its full details — config, BBS, state, windows and PID.
v1.1.32026-07-26Proxy support (new)
The foundation for tracking stats MegaMUD doesn’t. Turn it on with “Start Proxy (for live stats).”
